EDI is an abbreviation of Electronic Data Interchange, and refers to a standardized protocol and system for linking business data such as products and orders in business-to-business transactions. In Japan, the IT Coordinators Association of Japan (ITCA), with the support of vendor organizations that endorse common EDI and the Study Group on Supply Chain Information Infrastructure, the Japanese branch of the United Nations CEFACT, has established a common EDI for small and medium-sized businesses, the "Common EDI Certification System for Small and Medium-sized Businesses," and other efforts are being made toward standardization.
